being rank 35k is good for someone who's barely level 70, r-right...?

also i have two dumbass questions,
in a thread a couple days ago someone told me my relationship with students was too low. i have not given a single gift before and idk how the mechanic works. do students have preferences or do i just shove things in their faces till they like me?
also what's an ideal bond level to aim for? i noticed that only some students have other equipment at bond 15
