The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has found Russia guilty in the case of Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia, which consolidates four inter-state applications.

▪ The first two applications were filed by Ukraine in 2014 and concerned human rights violations committed in the Russian-occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including the abduction of three groups of Ukrainian children and their unlawful transfer to Russia.

▪ The third application was submitted by the Netherlands in 2020. It pertained to the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Donbas in July 2014, which resulted in the deaths of all 298 people on board.

▪ The most recent, fourth application was filed by Ukraine in 2022 and accused Russia of human rights violations committed since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
