At the end of the day it's his life for 50 million dollars to the town, and another 50 million to split between them all, because a woman he raped and had exiled like 80 years ago has come back rich to their poor, drought-plagued town for revenge
They go on an on about how proud and dignified their people and that they'd never accept the deal, while stopping him from leaving at every turn and getting the most expensive things from his store and telling him to put it on their tabs
It's a nice movie, I'd rec Hyenas [1992] any day
