I feel like it comes from the fact that there's a huge amount of theyfab stolen valour going on where he/they lesbians who look like some of the prettiest cis women are inserting themselves amongst their ranks so most people think that trans men have a hard time passing because those theyfabs have no interest in presenting masculine.
From what I've seen I feel like it does look like it's easier for them to pass, their vocal chords drop, they grow hair, they go bald, etc, they might not always pass as Achillean jocks but they still pass imo. Even soft puppybois pass relatively well, we're clockable even in some of the best cases.
