In a sense, he was the Japanese version of Jimmy Savile. However, unlike Jimmy Savile, many people had known about his atrocities for a long time, and it had become an open secret throughout society. Yet no one could criticise him until after his death, when a foreign TV station (the BBC in the UK) reported on it. Some of the victims even committed suicide.
