Madison is seen as a "hidden gem" among young people who want to live in a city that's dense enough where you can get around on foot while also no being horribly overpriced. The problem is they all think they're the first ones to discover Madison, but it's been an ongoing for over a decade. Google "underrated US cities" (which is probably what most of these people are doing) and Madison will be towards the top of most lists. Thousands of out of staters are moving here every year, mostly wealthy tech workers or trust fund kids from west coast and east coast cities who work remote. The entire city is getting outpriced by these people coming in and the local culture has become unrecognizable.
