international law is a fairly unserious framework. Like when pro-Palestinians say Palestinians have a right to resist occupation and tyranny they are right but that right only means that international entities won't treat them as criminals if they actually end up winning, not that they are morally and legally obligated to support them. So you get this stupid x is allowed to defend itself yada yada. Combine that with exceptions and dumb stuff and you'll see it only makes sense when both parties actually are interested in working shit out.
There's a reason USA isn't in the ICC and instead has a battle plan to invade the Hague if they were ever charged. So at most people yap about breaking international law to get points and not because they subscribe to actually follow it.
