Saw a post seething about HSR because of such and such reasons, not relevant to what I want to talk about so I edited it out, but I guess it did its job because now I've been mad at this post for the last day or so. What really peeved me off was the "combat inspired by the Trails series" remark. Now I have played the Trails games and the combat isn't even remotely similar to HSR, the defining feature of Trails combat is that it's kind of like light-SRPG combat where you command your characters around the battlefield when you take your turn. Now Trails didn't invent this combat system either, for example Koudelka on PS1 is a game I've played that does something similar. But to say HSR is anything close to that is ridiculous. I love HSR but the combat is pretty intentionally simplified, even moreso than a standard JRPG. Most characters have 3 actions and that's it. The skill point system was mildly interesting for a few minutes at the start but you hardly have to actually think about it.

I barely interact with the Trails fanbase but I always had a bad feeling after Cold Steel, I wonder if that game had a Fire Emblem Awakening effect and infested the fanbase with the most undesirable dipshit retards that didn't give it a second glance before because it wasn't anime enough for them. Which are also in the HSR fanbase, mind you, but at least I knew what I was getting into from the start.
