Robot modes. While the box states that this two pack was intended to recreate their fight from the '86 movie, neither Megatron nor Optimus look anything like their original incarnations. I knew this would be the case and am actually fine with it - this was more for the novelty, and Megatron in particular looks different enough that I plan on repurposing him as an original character (though I'm not sure what I want to call him yet. Heat Shot? Heat Ray? Something 'hot' or 'fiery'). He's got a very different face from either Megatron that I'm used to, a very different torso, and a pair of what are described as being "wings" (his gun shell halves, just blatantly hanging off of his back) that G1/G2 Megatron doesn't normally have, on top of the new (but cool) red colors on his extremities. He also holds his Fusion Cannon underslung instead of on the top/side of his arm, and it reminds me a bit of a Flamer from Fallout for some reason, so I'm headcanoning it as being a combination flamethrower/mortar launcher instead of a laser. His articulation is pretty decent - on par with my old Beast Wars guys - so while he's not a great looking Megatron, he's a decent figure overall.
Prime, on the other hand, has some issues. First, upon looking at his instructions, I realized his knee covers were actually on backwards; I had to disassemble his legs to flip them around. Next, his arm kibble, while less blatant than Megatron's shell halves, doesn't have any way to lock in place and gets in the way often, which annoys me; they're clear blue, so I guess they can act as some kind of energy shields, but they're still cumbersome. The head sculpt is kinda cool, and I like his weapons (which can turn into a back mounted turret or jetpack); he also has some really nice metallic blue paint. He looks closer to who he's supposed to be than Megatron does, but is still different enough that I may use him as a stand-in for G2 Sureshot, unless anyone has ideas for a cool name for him, too.
