“Thank you all for being on time.” Wind says, as he fills the screen with maps and charts. Squid’s face is visible in the corner, livestreamed from the lab.
“I’ll now begin the briefing for Operation Augur. As you may know, our target this time is the Indexing Software used by City 87-O to locate and catalogue Digimon.”
Depicted on the screen is the giant radar dish, constantly rotating atop a wide tower. It’s the tallest building in the region, and is situated in one of those fake business districts that people work at. The antennae swivels towards a stream of cyan data and draws in a thin line of junk, before rotating elsewhere to continue its search.
“What’s it doing?” Asks the Kunemon boy.
“Searching for a particular species. With this software, they can identify individual Digimon in a city-wide range.”
Squid pipes up next.
“We can’t get the dish itself. But I should be able to create a localized solution using the source code! So that’s our primary goal. We’re going to break in, reach the heart of the scanner, and duplicate its code. If we do that-“
A red and yellow face pops up on the screen.
”We should be able to scan the city for key Digimon! That means new partners for some of you guys, that means material for Digivolution, and that means weapons for use against the city’s guardians!” ToyAgumon says in excitement.
“I’m sure you all remember Operation Havoc. Ever since then, we’ve been scouting for new recruits. But we’re waiting till after Operation Augur to let any of them in.”
”Why?” Phascomon asks.
“We don’t want bandwagoners. Everyone here has proven their sincerity long before we achieved anything as big as the last mission. So I need to vet members carefully. And with new members, we need new Digimon. Current members get priority, of course.” His statement is met with nods of approval all around the table.
“So like ToyAgumon said, we'll be able to more reliably obtain Rookies and Baby Digimon as they exit their Gardens, thanks to the Scanner. This is the next big step for the Dogs of War. You all remember how hard it was to get the few we do.”
He swaps his display to a map of the district. There are numerous highlighted areas, forming a lattice of cones and sight lines that weave across the entirety of the city block.
“Unfortunately, we ran into a huge problem with planning. This is the Business district-“ He’s interrupted by laughs and snickers from around the table. You see in his eyes that he’s just as amused, but his lips curl into a forced snarl and he slams his hands on the table for silence. You all know what a joke these false jobs are.
“-and observation is heavy. There are almost no paths to enter the partition without being spotted. That means it’s too easy to corner and hunt us down as we go in and out.”
