I'm finding myself in need of a one-shot for my next Call of Cthulhu session due to a player being absent (We're running Horror on the Orient Express) and me not wanting to finish the chapter without them.
Instead of using a pre-made, I'm trying my hand at writing my own adventure for the first time in a while, as I feel I'm more experienced with the game than last time I made my own and want to try it out again.
Here is my idea. I'd be happy for any feedback or ideas.
>A decade ago in a small village, an immortal witch had lain a trap for a Star Vampire which had been summoned up by a rival of hers centuries ago and sent to kill her. While the rival was long dead at this point, the Star Vampire lived and continued its hunt.
>She had attempted numerous rituals and spells to kill the creature, all to no avail, and was getting desperate. As such, she was pursuing a risky option: Opening a doorway to a pocket dimension using eldritch geometry and trapping the thing inside.
>However, something went wrong during the attempt, with the witch accidentally falling into her own trap and getting sucked into the pocket dimension. The Star Vampire attempted to pursue but ended up ruining the lines she had drawn, closing the gateway and sealing her inside and it outside.
>The Star Vampire now lurks inside of the witch's old home where she made the trap, knowing she's nearby but unable to reach her. It can do nothing but wait for her to escape so it can kill her. Every few years it must go out and feed, else laying in a semi-hibernation.
My plan is for the PCs to be part of a group that investigates supposedly paranormal instances. They'll get on the investigation through reports of animals being found drained of blood. I'm hoping to put in handouts about the immortal witch's history, with reports of people being found exsanguinated in areas she's been, in order to make them think she's a traditional vampire and to hide the Star Vampire's presence until later on.
