Part of this I heavily believe it's because people would treat the vampires as some sort of minority or [insert controversial topic here] or whatever, much like how people (contrarian or trolling) started seeing self inserts as the Bugs in Starship Troopers. Also, wasn't there a Marvel comic arc where humans who were turned into vampires were being treated like immigrants or some shit like that? Hilarious.
