>Which is exactly why I want a PS2 ODE.
I know that's why you want one, but like I explained, it would be such a massive and expensive undertaking for something so few care about that nobody is ever going to bother. Doubly so if the intent is to play previous-gen games on a PS2.

At this point anyone who still cares to use a real PS2 instead of emulate is likely going to be more interested in using a real PS1 for PS1 games instead of a PS2, especially since anyone using a real PS2 over emulation in 2025 is going it likely because they care about the accuracy/compatibility, and the PS2 was NOT 100% compatible with all PS1 games and had issues with many of the ones it was compatible with. Just install an ODE in a PS1 if your reasoning is to play PS1 games, it's going to be much cheaper than any PS2 ODE would ever be, and much easier to install as well.

>Plus, there's a shitload of PS2s with busted lasers in the wild, and it'd be nice to be able to play everything with them that they'd be able to with a working laser.
... how exactly does using an ISO loader for your PS2 games not solve this issue? Also, you would still not be able to "play everything" since generally those ODEs don't support playing music CDs or DVD movies. Not even a PS2 ODE would give you all the features a physical drive would have had. (Also, laser replacements exist, and they're not expensive)

>Also, PS1 games look fucking sick on a PS2 over component, and you can't do component natively on PS1.
You CAN do RGB though, or use those Retroversion cables that convert the RGB to component, that's what I use on my PS1.
