Honestly if you can make the renders look even decent overall, I'd say go with that over slop unless you REALLY don't have the time to make enough of them.

Personally I'm not inherently anti-slop, but there definitely is a lot more soul to renders, especially since YOU have control over the exact scene, expressions, etc. My two cents would be that if the CGs are the main focus/most enjoyable aspect, use renders. If the other aspects (gameplay, dialogue, etc) are more important, then slop is fine. Basically, whichever one helps you reach your goal in a way that makes the game the most enjoyable to make.
