I doubt we are actually in a simulation though it is very much like one. However we create in the creators image so it only makes sense we would develop the notion of what a simulation is. This is not a new idea, the Greeks discussed all of this 1000's of years ago. Determinism is "simulation" theory before computers were invented, There is no way for us to ever until we die however and even then we cant be sure the answers will be given to us.
