Definitely can't be pleasant. Though there are worse things. Imagine what happens to people sprouted in Grim Fandango. It's suggested they go back to the world of the living, which means one of two things; they either come back to life as a child, but with their old memories and have to live a new life while still remembering their old one. Or, they lose their memories, meaning they suffer a death of self after the sprouting.
