You can't really give the protags a personality and also have all the goofy side shit you have to do in these games. The protags having a vague reason for being silent is fine (ex. Yu moving a lot, Ren trying to keep low, Yuki being apathetic and Tatsuya) and permanent canon names. shit like Ryuji calling him Renren is nice
