He is a lot better now but all of his worst instincts are still there. I think that if left to his own devices, he'd fall back to his old habits in a heartbeat.
The main difference, at least to me, is that now he's allowed himself to be in an environment were his best side can more easily come to the front. He can now enjoy playing with other boys, talking to girls and being a reliable brother without getting in his own way. Because of that, he surrounded himself with people who would not let him go back to being a worthless neet.
