I disagree. I like both '84 and '21-24, but one thing Lynch understands a lot better than Villenueve is how to characterize a location, especially Arrakis, and since the planet itself is such a focus of the story it goes a long way in reflecting the tone of the novel.
Tonally, I'd say the new ones reflect the soap-opera-y quality of Dune, which is certainly has, but Lynch captures the human grittiness, mystery, and grandeur that makes the story a such a classic.
