Leftists never really understood, or cared to understand, the concept of the Gadsden flag, they only understand the idea that they often see it used as a symbol by people who call themselves "patriots" and it is often associated contextually with American flags and other old-time symbols. So in their mind, the context creates the idea that the Gadsden flag is a "fascist" symbol, meaning that it deserves to be defaced/mocked, but obviously that's kind of hard to do when you literally don't understand what the symbolism on the flag means.
Pic related popped up as a leftist flag during Trump #1 if I remember correctly, and it's absurd in it's utter cluelessness and nonsensical nature, until you realize that in the mind of the leftist, the snake in the flag represents the "patriot" which they have decided means "fascist" and the "patriot" opposes communism, trans rights, blacks, etc., and thus must be crushed/tread upon.
In their minds, the snake and the government are one entity, a fascist being, and so it deserves to be crushed by them.
