There are, but they're extremely rare. Not because I think everyone is awful (though some people are). It's hard because it needs a very specific set of circumstances:
>Meet someone in your youth (childhood, teenager, uni at the latest)
>Hang out with them for years
>Neither of you become worse people
Obviously what kills friendships is simply not seeing each other. So the only way to have a genuine true friend is if both of you live close enough to visit on a semi consistent basis. But many people move away to different cities, states/provinces, or even countries. To have a true friend you have to luck out on a cosmic scale where both of you happen to be in the same area with the same broad interests. And that shit is unironically harder than winning a lottery.
