I've said this before and I'll say it again, I don't dislike the Ice Climbers and it's cool seeing people brainstorm what a new game starring them could be like but Smash Bros is literally the only reason why people give a shit about them to this day.
To be fair, Sakurai and his team did manage to make Nana and Popo absolutely adorable but if fucking Urban Champion got that spot in Melee there'd be people demanding his return even though his game is widely considered one of the worst original NES titles (along with Ice Climber).
But the thing about the Ice Climbers that really sticks is out is how Smash Bros completely reinvented their dynamic to such a degree where it's outright expected any potential revival to reflect said change.
What do I mean by this?
Ice Climber wasn't co-op, its multiplayer was competitive
Almost every fan pitch for a new Ice Climber game treats Popo and Nana as this inseparable duo because that's what Smash Bros showed with their inclusion when in reality they were friendly rivals
