I’ve always been the closest one in my family to our now 12 year old dog, I’m the one who walks him every day and he always tags along with me even when we’re all together at home.
That said I’m about to start law school and move several states away, I was kind of choking up and tearing up even though I tried not to telling my dad I felt bad that this might be the last time I see him since he’s already an old dog, and my dad offered to let me bring him with me and he’d cover any vet and food bills for him.
Is this a good idea? On the one hand I feel awful leaving him but on the other I’m afraid he’d be a distraction especially when your first semester first year law school grades are so critically important. I’d also feel bad considering I know my dad and my little brother love him too and I feel it wouldn’t be fair for him to essentially become my dog.
What do you guys think I should do?

I’m moving out of my dads several states away for law school and was telling him I felt bad that this might be the last time I see our 12 year old family dog, that I’ve walked every single day when I’m home, and my dad offered to let me bring him with me and he’d pay for food and vet visits and I couldn’t stop myself.
