This has been known for a decade thanks to Haidts research. Has to do with how liberals vs. conservatives view the world with their innate moral lens. It's why a conservative understands liberals positions much more than liberals understand conservatives opinion (good example of this is a conservative criticizing a black man who says stupid things, where the liberal will say that the conservative is criticizing the black man BECAUSE he is black.)
