They still use Miis, but they've been pivoting to free form expression for heavy Mii-focused gameswith Miitopia and the new Tomodachi instead of being restricted to preset parts, and built-in create a charas that fit each individual universe better than a catch-all Mii (like Pikmin 4's avatar).
The classic Miis still get love in games like Pikmin Bloom though.
