Another example: picrel is a character from a gacha called Tokyo Afterschool Summoners.
He's named Zhurong, and like nearly every other character in the game, he's based loosely on the mythological Chinese figure on the same name. except that's bait— he's actually one of the Lovecraft-based characters, not one of the Chinese ones. Halfway through the event that introduces him they reveal that he's actually the Color out of Space and accidentally bodyjacked and overwrote the real Zhurong years ago, something that leaves him deeply upset and conflicted because his accidental genuine murder and stealing of another person's life scares him.
This isn't even the most absurd one in this game. There's a character based on Flowers for Algernon.
