If you don’t say something, these two will go on forever (or until Yu Yan runs wild), and it’s pretty clear who is at fault here. Why sugarcoat it? This might turn into a teaching moment for Ichie. An actual one.

“Ichie. You didn’t realize at the time, but that was a horrible thing you did.” You shake your head in obvious disappointment. “You should know enough now to be able to see that. You can work on righting society’s wrongs in time, but right now, you have the chance to make amends for one of your own.”

Ichie’s eyes are moving everywhere but your (or anyone else’s) direction. She opens her mouth momentarily, then clashes her teeth together without a word. She’s trying to materialize a response to counter everything that has been said. But no matter where she’s looking at, no matter how many brain cells hit each other in her head, no matter how much she begs the world — an answer simply doesn’t appear. She’s seconds away from a panic attack.

“I did something horrible…? I did? I?” Ichie is living in a new reality where she’s wrong. It’s gonna take more than a minute to sink it in…

“Yes, you could’ve been responsible for my death.” Nariko puts it simple.

“H-Ha! D-D-Don’t act like you would’ve perished from that! Y-Y-You’re my rival.” Ichie tricks herself into more excuses.

“I’m not. And I got lucky, but a friend of mine lost his life in the process. Ichie, I’m someone you hate for no fault of mine.” Nariko rejects the premise.

“Lost his life…?” Ichie grabs her head… and stares at the ground… “My actions…? I-I was supposed to help… everyone out…” The words from Wilma echo through her mind.

“Quick advice: it’s easier on the soul to acknowledge you fucked up…” Yu Yan whispers. “...If you aren’t a psycho.”

“And Saionji. Please, don’t be a loony.” Despite it all, Nariko wants to move on from this.

“I’m really sorry about this, Nariko. How can I make it up to you?” You sigh.

“You don’t have to. How can I fault you for using the same kindness that saved me to help someone else?” Nariko smiles.

“Lookin’ real mature over here, Nariko.” Yu Yan puts her hands on her hips. “But dear me, don’t let an opportunity to have fun slip you by. If the stud wants to make it up to you, let him!”

“Ask and you shall receive!” You smile.

“Just don’t pick food...” Yu Yan wants something more creative. “You’re my vice-president. You can’t look sharp if you’re round!”

Nariko fiercely glances back at her political party leader… Yu Yan merely grins back.

“I let you two choose the next course of action.” You feel this is the way.
