diversity doesn't have to mean homogeneity, but the two have come to mean the same thing
america in the 20th century was diverse, in the sense that there were many discrete cultures working with different values, working together for the same ideals and depending on one another, though they would still compete and bust each others balls, which is normal & fine
the homogenous single culture and melting together of different people just makes everyone feel frustrated and claustrophobic and isolated, which is the whole point
