sure, I can get that but its clear heathcliff had his issues deep seated from childhood
he even states that basically when catherine stays at linton's house as children he feels like he lost her at that point
but its just kinda the issue when you have an easy solution, looking at it makes it seem simple but everything in heathcliff's life made him not even consider it
also there WAS a happy ending, its slightly contrived but it is showing that there was a happy ending in some way
to the point that even erlking laments that there was a way for heathcliff and catherine to be happy together, it was just buried underneath everything
