if u want to see microbes under a brightfield compound microscope, you need to stain them. but it's difficult to stain microbes without killling them idk it might be impossible. if you dont stain them the light will shine right through them, making them difficult to see. a darkfield condenser directs the light away from the objective, so the microbes in the sample appear as bright objects on top of a black background.
