The points can easily be answered. Gacha costs less money to develop compared to AAA games nowadays so there are more of them especially after AAA titles flop. They’re easy to develop for sometimes since many copy the Hoyoverse model and the gameplay is expected to be a bit bad and grindy but the players have to put up with it. They’re popular because they’re free, it costs no money to install and play it. Persona 5 Phantom X had a higher playercount on Steam than Persona 5 Royal, but it’s not a fair comparison because the pc port for Royal came years later after its release and also not necessarily everyone plays gacha on Steam. The money comes from whales, basically a small portion of the userbase spends an inordinate amount of money on the game. Look into the 20/80 rule but here it’s even more exaggerated, there’s people who drop tens of thousands into gachas and they basically pay for the game for you, they’re the reason f2p can be a sustainable model. It’a not that nothing else can compete but when you have stinkers like Veilguard and AC Shadows what else do you play lol I like racing the horsies! With Persona 5 Phantom X in particular it rots western culture because I know no woman will ever give me a look like this girl does.
