When starting out you don't need the meta supports. They're not necessary for any content, and for a new player their purpose can be fulfilled by borrowing one. In fact, you can't even use them optimally until at least a bit later when you can max your 5* servants skills out.
You SHOULD be aware of who they are (just the big 4, Koyanskaya, Castoria, Skadi, Oberon), and should consider rolling for them if you're sticking with the game long term, because what they do is make playing the game vastly more efficient. For story that's irrelevant, but when you're farming late game items or lottery events, it's impactful.
They get rate ups semi regularly anyway, so I wouldn't recommend them if you're brand new. If you're still playing 6 to 12 months later and play daily, and are decently far into the story and taking part in events and clearing event shops? Then that's when you should be aware of them and their impact.
