heres an example of what one of those old figures looked like. back in the day (early 2000s) these were pretty impressive as a complete figure. Just good decal placement and a matte finish with a bit of panel lining.
if i used all your tips on the sanding sponges i think for sake of trying something different i could get a finish or look like this if i need to "bail out" and go for a matte finish over trying to match the bare plastic.
since i always painted my kits and have never done this sanding stuff before it reminds me of something i never understood. why do they make those limited edition kits in metallic finishes? i never understood why someone would buy them because you will never be able to buff out the sprue marks and you will have to paint over the vac-metal coating. why do those exist?
