Flags (and thread-local ids etc) are unironically the best thing about /pol/ (and other flag boards). It combines the best aspects of both anonymity and identity. Completely shuts down short-term samefagging etc, but without creating long-term persistent identities and the associated perverse incentive to amass personal status at the expense of the truth. It's also just good banter etc. I'm reminded of the famous "penis post" (pic related).
