It's more of a case that Sony is losing interest in having a closed ecosystem. They make loads of money from online subscriptions, and likely loads of money from their multi-platform 1st party games they've been trying out.
Also, the console wars died years ago when mobile gaming came on the scene because there's no longer one platform fighting for a complete monopoly of the consumer userbase. Most people today have multiple systems and play specific games on them. The last true console war was probably 7th gen.
