What if Dottore has been grooming Diluc to be one option for their moon plans or whatever they're doing now with Columbina? Crepus was always a bit sus with his vague fatui connections. He had his own delusion and a fatui-esque outfit that Diluc later used. Imagine if he had been tasked with looking after an angel (not necessarily Nicole but someone). The two fall in love, Crepus decides to nope out of Fatui because he doesn't accept what they're planning for his waifu. They settle in Mondstadt and start their farm and business and family, but Fatui doesn't accept him just sneaking off with their moon, and arrange his death.
Dottore appears a lot in Mondstadt in the web comic, which is why I think he had some involvement with Crepus or even Diluc. And he has been managing other moon candidates like Scara before. Also Diluc has some squiggles in his tie that look like the symbols of Lucifer, the angel of DAWN.
