You guys should really be kinder on yourselves and realize that the 2020's are easily the most justifiable time to be a NEET due to the complete erosion of society and technology and etc. Basically, someone like Satou (an early 2000's NEET) was despicable because back then things were the complete inverse of now. Men weren't kicked out of society and education and the workforce by malevolent deep state forces (and no, don't pretend we're in the early internet age where these are just wacky conspiracies, don't fucking dare) where women didn't have all the social capital to make a man's life hell, where there was a veil of normalcy and social media wasn't even a concept.
Satou is despicable for being a NEET loser in 2002 but today he would be just a regular young man in an age where being a regular young man is hell on earth and thus understandable that he'd opt out of a cruel society that clearly wants nothing to do with him anyway.
Also, the otaku friend next door would probably be a X/Twitch addicted AGP tranny who uses transsexualism as a way to cope and "escape" his loser self. Misaki would probably be a crazy TikTok-using BPD Valorant-playing insane whore who wants to "lovebomb" Satou and probably has a shit-ton of Satou-like orbiters. The dyke bitch that swindled otaku-kun would be a zippertits they/them cunt and Hitomi would just be some alt-right girl grifter.

This is just to say I wish I was in my 20's in the 2000's.
