Because the writers were stupid, and rushed and couldn't find another ending that worked. Season 4 of Star Vs felt like such a rush-job. They couldn't even break up Kelly and Marco on screen.

The ending of Star Vs. is a bunch of illegal alien magical creatures coming to Earth and terrorizing the people and destroying their houses. But it's all worth it because of "muh Starco."
