Always disliked this, back then and just as much now. Eye-rolled when Sam (of Serious fame) did the Indiana Jones whistle at the rolling boulder reference.
Only thing that lifts Caleb from the same trash bin as the other build engine protagonists (+Sam) are his design and voice performance.
