I don't think they'll ever manage to make a better rival/friend group. I fucking love these guys so much. The overall story with the 'raidons and the professor was pure kino, too. I really enjoyed it, I wish I could experience Area Zero for the first time again.
Honestly, all the game really needed was more polish. The graphics and performance were straight up embarrassingly bad. There was also tons of clipping in the terrain, Pokémon constantly spawning in walls etc.
It needed at least one more year in the oven. Fix the terrain and spawns, make some more varied biomes (at least use a different shade of green sometimes), make better terrain textures that tile better, correct some color values, especially for the Pokémon. If they did that plus put more effort into making the open world more engaging and put some more work into the Team Star segment, it could've been a 10/10 contender.
Oh, and I really hated how half-assed the Treasures of Ruin quest was. You don't get any pointers, just "Yeah you gotta find the stakes, good luck bro you're not getting any hints lmao". And the fact that the screen just fades to black instead of showing at least a little animation where it crumbles and vanishes is ridiculous. It's such a waste, especially cause they are such a fucking cool set of legendaries.
But despite the obvious flaws, I'm still really gonna miss Paldea, and I'm sad to say goodbye. SwSh was a huge disaster and left a really bitter taste in my mouth, so I was lucky that I even bothered with SV in the first place. But I'm glad that I did because it actually made me like Pokémon again.
