There is nothing wrong with happy endings.
And doubly so in a setting you aren't supposed to take seriously.
It's like writing a comedy show and killing the comedy sidekick in the penultimate episode. What the fuck would you even achieve with that? Unless they're grating and hated by the fanbase, you just finish the show keeping the same tone and roll the credits.
