So here's the thing. Flash Sentry was meant to be a plot device to explain how Sunset so easily adapted to the human world. However, the first movie was already so dense with necessary scenes that there was no time to develop that part of his character. We only get brief glimpses of his chivalry and adorkableness, both his human and pony counterparts, with barely anything more than passing lines to reference them.

When Rainbow Rocks was to begin, we knew that Flash has a weakness for marepussy, was manipulated and used by Sunset, is a genuinely nice person with no ulterior motives, and plays the guitar exceptionally well. However, he's also a BOY, which means he has to be separate from the Mane 7. The movies are meant to advertise the girls so Hasbro can sell more dolls to compete with Monster High. So, when the girls' band has numerous guitar-playing members, an aspect of Flash is rendered useless, which is his musical ability.

Then comes Friendship Games and there's another character trait removed: Being a love interest. They even slap him in the dick when he fails to really reconnect with Sunset since she's more focused on Sci-Twi. Here he loses his chivalric aura and good-hearted nature because it appears that Flash felt like he was entitled to Sci-Twi because she is Twilight's counterpart, which is a terrible look for any guy in the dating scene.

After that is Legend of Everfree, which introduced Timber Spruce and further pushed Flash into a state of nothingness because Timber is just as adorkable, but possesses significantly stronger big dick energy since Flash has continually been shoved into the mud for multiple movies now. He's become a punchline. It certainly doesn't help that he sings a simp song during International Women's Day and is immediately "killed" during the snowball fight short after gushing about how happy he is to finally help Sunset and her friends.

He was the show's punching bag, and it would've taken a skilled writer to undo the amount of character damage he took to make him cool again. There were signs that it could have been done, but once G4 was obliterated, there was nothing anyone could do to salvage him.
