My cousin works as a guard at the prison TJ is at. TJs current life is some kind of hell. He's been in quasi-solitary for 11 years straight (do to a failed escape) with basically no privilege's, no human contact (outside guards telling him what to do) and eating mostly nutraloaf for food.
He gets no internet, no vidya, no movies, no good tasting food, no SSRI's, no natural light. Because of repeat escape & suicide attempts they do inspections every 4 hours. And since he was such as shithead and burned every bridge no rights group will help him. He has no chance of parole so this is his life for the next 60-80 years it's bleak AF nightmare fuel.
