What a tragic view of the world.
>Nikola Tesla: “Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born.”
>Henry David Thoreau: “I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude.”
>Albert Einstein: “The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.”
>May Sarton: “Solitude is the salt of personhood. It brings out the authentic flavor of every experience.”
>Pablo Picasso: “Without great solitude, no serious work is possible.”
>Thomas Merton: “Solitude is not something you must hope for in the future. Rather, it is a deepening of the present, and unless you look for it in the present you will never find it.”
>Blaise Pascal: “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”
I spend my life surrounded by people, work colleagues during the day, family in the evenings. Nothing is more important to me than those precious times spent in my own company. Be it in the workshop tinkering on some project, or out in the countryside exploring on my bike. My mind is so much calmer, me senses seem to atune to the environment.
There is nothing like the quieting peace of a ride alone with just the sights, sounds and scents of nature to stimulate truly deep and free thought.
I feel genuine sorrow for any man who fears his own company.
