Hey /vn/,
So I finally caved and played Angel Beats! 1st Beat after years of "I'll get around to it someday." And wow... I was not emotionally prepared for how much this would wreck me.
I went in thinking "I've seen the anime, I know what to expect" but the VN hits so different. It's like meeting old friends and realizing you never really knew them at all.
Yuri's route completely destroyed me. That scene where she finally breaks down? I had to put my controller down and just... breathe for a minute. The anime showed us her strength, but the VN lets us feel the cracks beneath the surface.
And the new content! Getting to know the side characters properly was such a gift. Iwasawa's story hit me way harder here than in the anime, and TK's mysterious past teases have me dying for more. Even Matsushita's silly moments had this unexpected depth to them.
Maeda-sensei's writing is just... magical. One moment you're laughing at dumb jokes, the next you're getting sucker-punched right in the feels. That bittersweet tone he's famous for? It's perfected here.
The soundtrack too, not just reusing anime tracks but adding these beautiful new piano pieces that play at just the right moments to absolutely wreck you.
No spoilers, but that ending... I sat there staring at the credits with tears in my eyes. The fact this is only part one is torture, I need the rest of this story now! going to read Heaven Burns Red!
If anyone's on the fence about playing because they've seen the anime, trust me, this is worth your time. It takes everything good about Angel Beats and makes it deeper, more personal, and so much more emotional.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go listen to the OST on repeat and cry some more.
>Got emotionally destroyed
>10/10 would cry again.
