Gameplaywise, the first one is much more tactical and has you controlling different echelons in increasingly convoluted maps, some of which are close to being actual puzzles since you can't bruteforce everything because of deathstacks and some special mechanics sometimes. The second one is like a simplified XCOM, but rolling good units will quickly trivialise combat and turn it into autoslop.
Storywise, the first one is mostly complete, and although the story starts slow it picks up around chapter 10 and from then on it turns into a wild ride. The second one is still pretty weak storywise, but it hasn't been out for long so it might pick up later on.
