Yes and no. I make $52k/year so certainly I do work for everything that I buy but I wouldn't call it hard work it's more like a routine than anything. I enjoy my job so I really don't mind.
In the case of my PC, I bought the PCB of an old arcade game for $300 and found tma broken motherboard for $600, repaired them both and had fun with them for a while. Then I sold them for $3000 to a collector and I used that money to build my PC so I wouldn't say that I "worked hard" for my PC since all I did was buy some old junk, repair it so that I could play with it, and then sold it when I got bored of it.
