Here is a fact that will blow these college kids minds. A butcher, like the person who served meat at the deli, used to be a 6 figure job when you adjust for inflation. Now it is a minimum wage job.
Slaughterhouse employees made enough to support a family and was actually a really hard job to get.
Going to college used to not be the norm, and well paying jobs were easy to get out of high school because we had a labor shortage. Back then you could support a family of 6 by working at a butcher shop out of high school. You learned the trade.
