America would have objectively been better off if the South was systematically destroyed, and every single southerner, white and black, was either genocided or deported and replaced with Northern Whites.
The North very much had the capabilities to do this, and the Union Army could have carried out a full blown genocide with relative ease considering the fact taht 30% of the white male population of the South was dead and the Northern war machine was at full production.
