7 years ago, I wrote down a lot of drug-induced schizo amateur theories about music and neurological foundations of musical perception and enjoyment and forgot about them
I re-discovered the notes today and read them and most of the theories sound likely to be correct, and were pretty much corroborated by later research
Much of it was inspired by research I had read at the time about dopaminergic reward prediction error and "fractalized surprise" (layered surprise and meta-surprise at different scales/categories) and the importance of the behavior of dopaminergic neurons over the dopamine molecule itself, so I wasn't going off of nothing, but I'm surprised at how coherent I sounded despite it truly being grandiose schizo rambling and the fact I had zero knowledge of music theory or neuroscience
I failed to turn any of those ideas into clear insights about how to create good music, so it's ultimately useless, but I still wonder if maybe there is something in there that could lead to such insights
